As part of his familiarization tour of institutions and agencies, the new Director General of the National Drug Enforcement Agency today (4th September, 2024) paid a courtesy call on the GRA Management at the Revenue House in Banjul. Accompanied by Adviser Musa Mboob and other Senior Officers, DG Demba Ceesay recounted their days at the University Extension Programme where Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe served as the Student President who always coached and advised them to conduct themselves in a civil manner and focus on their studies.
Mr. Ceesay went on to express his appreciation for the existing collaboration and cooperation that so happily exists between the two institutions. According to him, we are both confronted with a common enemy; the criminal who is either carrying drugs or is trying to evade tax” which therefore requires concerted effort. Adviser Musa Mboob on his part also expressed his appreciation for the support, cooperation and collaboration that connects the two institutions. He equally recognized DG’s swift action in reforming the institution to meet its statutory requirement in maintaining a drug free Gambia.
Commissioner of Customs, Alhaji K. Mbye also hailed the wonderful collaboration that both institutions continue to enjoy particularly at the Airport, Sea Port and other border stations. He enjoins the respective staff to keep up that spirit.
In welcoming the delegation, Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe expressed his appreciation of receiving this high powered team. Mr. Darboe encouraged the newly appoint DG to reach out to all sister agencies and continue the close collaboration in achieving our common objectives as a government. He assured DLEAG of GRA’s 100% support particularly as GRA provide accommodation and office space across the country to other sister institutions which serves a way of effective operations. In conclusion he re-echoed the GRA’s Legal Director’s view of establishing an MoU between the two institutions that will address the area of information sharing and used the opportunity by calling on state agencies and institutions to also emulate such initiatives.
