The West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) commenced its Country Correspondents Conference and Training for Heads of Communications Departments today on the 18th of March 2025 to 19th of March 2025, at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria, under the theme: “Fostering Effective Communication for Institutional and Corporate Development in Tax Administration: The Role of WATAF Focal Persons.”
Representing the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) were Mr. Essa Jallow, Deputy Commissioner General & Head of Domestic Taxes, Mr. Maar Sarr, Deputy Commissioner for Small & Medium Taxpayers (WATAF Country Corespondent ) and Mr. Ebrima Saidy, Corporate and Public Affairs Manager.
The day began with the grand opening ceremony, followed by breakout sessions. Mr. Essa Jallow joined the WATAF Council Meeting, where key strategic documents and reports were reviewed and tax administration challenges in West Africa were discussed. Meanwhile, Mr. Maar Sarr participated as a panelist in a session focusing on challenges in relaying tax related developments between GRA and WATAF.
Additionally, Mr. Gonzales from CIAT (Inter-American Center for Tax Administration) delivered an expert presentation on digital communication tools and best practices in tax administration.
The first day concluded with knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at improving communication and enhancing visibility in tax administration.
